Sports and culture with community spirit, Uni Papua FC Finland
Communities are important for everyone and sports is a great way to give life to a community. Uni Papua Finland is a great example for that. The association is build around the diverse Indonesian community in Finland and open for all. Uni Papua Finland has traditional strong ties to the Indonesian Embassy in Finland and to the umbrella organization Uni Papua in Indonesia. Uni Papua is working with Youth in challenged conditions all over Indonesia and has a branch here in Finland, Uni Papua FC, a member organisation of Liikkukaa - Sports For All.
Uni Papua FC Finlands sports activities include participation in the Helsinki recreational league, the futsal league and participation in the RESPECT-PRIDE Cup as well as in the PALIS Cup. Uni Papua FC won silver in the Palis Cup in 2017. The associations All Star team also plays friendly games for example with Finnish Champions SJK Seinäjoki and FC Honka.
In 2017 Uni Papuas visit in Finland had been hosted by the Indonesian embassy and SJK Seinäjoki. Indonesia is the country with the biggest muslim population in the world, with buddhism, hinduism and christianity following suit. It is one of the most diverse countries of the world with hundreds of different languages and the Uni Papua team has been composed and selected from all over the 70.000 islands of Indonesia.
Cultural activities like dance, music, theatre and performance art are an important part of Uni Papua FC activities in Finland. The association also organizes events and festivals. Finances for the communities activities are raised at parties and for example through collecting return bottles and cans at festivals. Next Uni Papua FC Finland is planning to develop its activities for women, families and children.
